Camp Shawu - Kruger National Park,
Limpopo Province |
| |
Camp Shawu named after the most famous of the African elephants, the Magnificent Seven. ‘Shawu bull’ roamed the valley here for sixty years. With the longest tusks ever recorded in Southern Africa, Shawu commanded instinctive respect and admiration from all who gazed upon him. Those lucky enough to have encountered this awe-inspiring bull say he took your breath away. Camp Shawu aims to do the same.
Authentic Buffalo Dung Walls, Camp Shawu captures the spirit of the “real Africa” described by famous explorers of colonial times. Situated in a 15,000 hectare private concession in South Africa’s world-renowned Kruger National Park, this secluded camp accommodates 10 guests in 5 luxurious rooms. Each boasts a private deck overlooking the Mpanamana Dam, allowing guests a privileged view of game gathering to drink.
Explore Africa’s Wildlife in and around Camp Shawu. Lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, rhino, cheetah, hippo and crocodile abound. You will return restored and rejuvenated – having absorbed the magical energy and spiritual presence inherent in the bush. |

| Kruger National Park |
The world-renowned Kruger National Park offers a wildlife experience that ranks with the best in Africa. Best known for the 'Big Five' - Lion, Elephant, Leopard, Buffalo and Rhino - the Kruger Park is truly the flagship of Africa and South Africa's game reserves.
Established in 1898 to protect the wildlife of the South African Lowveld, this national park of nearly 2 million hectares, is unrivalled in the diversity of its life forms and a world leader in advanced environmental management techniques and policies. Kruger is home to an impressive number of species: 336 trees, 49 fish, 34 amphibians, 114 reptiles, 507 birds and 147 mammals.
Man's interaction with the Lowveld environment over many centuries - from bushman rock paintings to majestic archaeological sites like Masorini and Thulamela - is very evident in the Kruger National Park. These treasures represent the cultures, persons and events that played a role in the history of the Kruger and are conserved along with the park's natural assets.
The Kruger National Park is a savanna region, with a mixture of trees and grassland. Six permanent rivers flow through the park - the Crocodile, Letaba, Luvuvhu, Olifants, Sabie, and Shingwidzi. Denser subtropical forest occurs along these rivers and provides an important habitat for wildlife. There are no restricting fences between the Private Game Reserves and the Kruger National Park, so exciting wildlife encounters in the open veld are the order of the day, and game viewing here is truly a spectacular experience.
Watch in absolute awe and wonder as a lion stalks its prey, or at a cheetah chasing fleeing antelope at breathtaking speed. You might come across the Park's big and tall, the gigantic and stately Elephant, and gaze at the dizzying height of Africa's tallest creature, the Giraffe. |
