On the Zambian bank of the Zambezi River, overlooking the Mana Pools National Park shoreline is Kayila Lodge, an exclusive 12 bedded Safari Lodge.
The Lodge is situated on a private 10000 acre wildlife sanctuary which stretches back from the River to the impressive range of hills forming the Zambezi escarpment.
There are
- six beautifully appointed twin thatched en-suite lodges,
- the honeymoon suite with its sunken bath,
- the famous Kayila tree house suite, a double lodge built 30 feet up an African Sausage Tree (Kigelia africana)
- a duplex chalet with two separate en suite twin rooms
- a family room comprising a double and two singles.
There's a thatched central lounge and dining area with a natural rock plunge pool.
An interesting feature of the Lodge is an ancient Baobab Tree adjacent to the main complex which is hollow at the base and houses a unique "powder room".

Due to the presence of SafPar's own anti-poaching unit, game management and the re-introduction of species such as Puku, game viewing in the sanctuary is superb. Elephant, buffalo, zebra, kudu, waterbuck, leopard, lion and hyena are regularly sighted on our day and night game drives, and sometimes even in the camp itself. The birdlife is prolific due to the diverse combination of riverine and escarpment habitats with over 350 species recorded in the area. |

There are a multitude of activities to choose from when staying at Kayila including bush walks with an armed Professional Guide, hikes to the nearby escarpment with visits to its natural pools and waterfalls, game viewing by boat or simply relaxing in the beautiful gardens of the Lodge.
Kayila is also able to offer its guests walking trails and safaris with experienced, knowledgeable guides within the Chiawa Game Management Area.
The fishing on this section of the river is world famous, especially for the fighting Tigerfish. Our expert guides offer both traditional spinning as well as increasingly popular fly fishing excursions.

There are a variety of ways to get to Kayila Lodge. Some clients elect to fly into Kariba followed by a one and a half hour road transfer to the Kafue River. The final leg is a scenic 45-minute boat trip. There is also a good quality airstrip within walking distance of the Lodge itself and charter transfers direct to the Lodge from Lusaka and Livingstone are the preferred option.
On this remote and wild stretch of one of Africa's greatest rivers you'll discover the complete safari experience…. Kayila Lodge. |
