WALKING SAFARI

Wilderness Walking Safaris – Kgotla

Day 1: Greetings Wilderness Walkers.
On your arrival a camp representative will meet you at either Pont Drift border post or Limpopo Valley Airfield. Pick up time at the Border post is 13h00, should you not make this pick up time please advise the Mashatu head quarters on +267 2645321. After cool refreshments it’s onto the 4x4 and off to the southwestern part of Mashatu where the first night will be spent in the Kgotla. After a light lunch the afternoon will be spent on a short sunset walk as an introduction, ending with sundowners under a brilliant African sky. Once back at the camp and around the log fire, dinner is prepared and interesting stories told of what the next 4 days will entail. The evening will close with sleeping under the stars in a log enclosed protected boma.

Day 2:
Early wake up call followed by coffee or tea heralds the start of your walking safari in the ‘Land of the Giants’. One stop will be at the Mmamagwa Ruins, where you will be given fascinating insight into the ancient civilizations of Africa of 1000 years before and which pre-date Great Zimbabwe. Breakfast & lunch (carried in backpack) will be enjoyed during the day and a small siesta under a shaded tree. The end of the day returns you to the Kgotla for a night of red wine and story swapping around the fire. It is expected that the sounds of lion, hyena, leopard, jackal and other less intimidating creatures of the night will interrupt your sleep. Enjoy!

Day 3:
Early to bed early to rise!! Mashatu is home to no less than 7 of Africa’s Giants: African elephant, lion, giraffe, baobab tree, eland the ostrich and kori bustard. The reserve offers some of the most exhilarating game viewing in Africa and proudly offers refuge for the largest single population of elephant on privately owned land in Africa. Some 350 species of birds may be seen. Become one with the bush, identify and age various spoor. Learn the art of tracking and perhaps chancing on one of your ‘quarry’. Enjoy the evening with tales of what has been seen and drift off to sleep with noises of the elephant drinking and splashing at the watering hole nearby.

Day 4:
Breakfast, and then after a last short walk in the wild, the 4x4 will be packed and guests will be transferred to the Pont Drift border post & Limpopo Valley Airfield for the 13h00 departure.
