Nduara Loliondo was designed to celebrate Nomadic cultures around the world: the Mongolian Gers, and our own Maasai bomas. The outcome of this heady mix of culture, style, comfort and wilderness is the most amazing camp you will ever see.
Nduara Loliondo moves its yurts across the Loliondo area, part of the great Serengeti eco-system, bordering the Serengeti National Park proper. Being outside of the park boundaries offers great freedom; simple things like walking safaris, and night drives mean an altogether more intense and real feeling of safari, and wilderness.
Get out of your safari vehicle, and feel the earth beneath your feet. The finer details of the bush are seen in close up, as your private guide takes you out to explore this amazing world. A safari that combines Nduara Loliondo with our small tented migration camp in the Serengeti National Park itself - Serengeti Safari Camp - offers you the very best way to see the Serengeti eco-system.

Accomodation:
Nduara Loliondo is all about harmony, and reflects this in a strikingly organic design. Six big, beautiful yurts have been given a totally African makeover, with enough light and air to do justice to the wide skies and gentle climate of the area, then revved up with re-invented Maasai motifs and materials.
Each of the bedroom yurts has its own spacious en-suite bathroom attached to the back, with short drop toilets, and traditional bucket showers with hot and cold water on demand.
The yurts have been designed to be as cool as possible during the day, and have wrap-around shade net windows with flaps that can be rolled up or down. There is also a traditional open ‘wheel’ in the centre of the roof (in Mongolian gers this is where the chimney of the fireplace would be located). This helps to keep the yurt open and airy.
The communal mess and dining yurts are perfect for lazy afternoons, or cuddling up as night falls after a genuinely wild day out. This camp takes pastoralism to a whole new level - bold of heart, strong of step and strong in soul.

Location:
Twice a year, from one huge expanse of the landscape to another, Nduara Loliondo moves its yurts within the Loliondo community area, bordering the eastern side of the Serengeti National Park proper.
|
From December to June, the camp is located in the open plains of Piyaya, & partners with the Piyaya village community. This area is bordered by the Serengeti National Park, Ngorongoro Conservation Area, Gol Mountians, and Sanjan Gorge. Here, resident game is excellent, and the migration will periodically pass through the area.
From mid-June to December the camp partners with the Ololosokwan village community in the northern Loliondo area. Bordering Kenya’s Maasai Mara to the north and the Serengeti National Park to the west, this area also offers a great mix of resident game, and is excellent walking country with dramatic scenery of rock kopjes and woodlands.
How to Get There:
To get to Nduara Loliondo you can either fly by private charter, or with scheduled flights, or drive in 4WD vehicles. Nearest airstrips will vary according to the seasons: From mid December to late May, we use Ndutu airstrip for scheduled flights, and Wasso for private charters. From early June until mid December, we use Kleins airstrip for scheduled flights & private charters.

Activities:
Being outside the official park boundaries, but still within the whole eco-system, allows far greater freedoms than within the National Park itself. Although we still head out on game drives, the emphasis at Nduara Loliondo is on simple things like walking safaris, and night drives, which means an altogether more intense and real feeling of wilderness, not to mention more exciting encounters with game.
Enjoy the freedom of lengthy picnics and early evening sundowners. This is the time to slow down, get out of your vehicle and take on a different pace. See the things that you might otherwise miss. A fascinating new world reveals itself through the eyes of your own private guide who accompanies you on this adventure.
As the Maasai actually live in these areas, you also get to see something of tribal life, and give directly to those who are this land's custodians: we pay a significant fee to the local communities for every night you stay here, encouraging them to preserve these critical habitats.

Fast Facts:
Location - moves seasonally spending 6 months in southern Loliondo (Piyaya) and 6 months in northern Loliondo (Ololosokwan). Loliondo is big game country, right next door to the Serengeti National Park. This means that most of the game found in the park, can also be found in the Loliondo area (the migration itself will sometimes pass through, but this is not guaranteed, so we would suggest spending time at our Serengeti Safari Camp before or after coming to Nduara Loliondo)
Accommodation - the camp consists of six large yurts, with a dining yurt and separate lounge/library yurt. Each accommodation yurt has it’s own en-suite bathroom - attached to the back of the main sleeping area - with traditional safari bucket showers and short drop toilets. The yurts have been designed to be as cool as possible during the day, and have wrap-around shade net windows with flaps that can be rolled up or down. There is also a traditional open ‘wheel’ in the centre of the roof (in Mongolian gers this is where the chimney of the fireplace would be located). This helps to keep the yurt feeling open and airy. There is a canvas ’cap’ that covers the wheel at night, or in bad weather.
Activities - Private game drives in 4WD vehicles with your own guide, walking safaris, night game drives, great game viewing and birding. In Loliondo we have far more freedom than in any park, we can drive off-road, walk anywhere, and organise sundowners and cook-out meals. Also, we can introduce you to Maasai culture, in a way which is not available on most safaris.
Gratuities - we often get asked about what to tip. We find that most people will leave around $10 per person per day, which then gets split amongst the general staff, with the guides being tipped separately. Obviously tipping is not taken for granted, but if you've had a fantastic safari and would like to leave something for the guys, then great. Can we please ask however, that any tips are left in cash. Nduara Loliondo does not have credit card facilities, and is unable to deal with any cheque payments. In Tanzania, any staff tip payments made through our bank accounts will likely be charged VAT and our staff will certainly charged income tax. Thank you for your understanding.
How to Get There - fly by private charter, or scheduled flights, or drive in 4WD vehicles. Nearest airstrips will vary according to the seasons: Mid Dec to late May - Ndutu (scheduled flights), Wasso (private charters). Early June - mid Dec - Kleins (scheduled flights & private charters)
Open - all year round.
Child Policy - We are delighted to accept children of 8 and over at Nduara Loliondo. Please note however, there is a restriction of 12 and over for any walking or fly camping activities.
