Pretoria
Pretoria is a neat, handsome city of tall buildings and wide streets. The city's hub is Church Square, around which it originally developed. Pretoria is famed for its parks and gardens, full of roses and jacaranda trees that come into bloom in the spring.
Pretoria is largely an administrative centre, but it is also the hub of an important rail network, and its advanced industrial complex, originally based on steel making, includes engineering, food processing and diamond mining. Outdoor enthusiasts are attracted to the delightful Magaliesberg range of hills to the west, a prime scenic and recreational area that incorporates the Hartbeespoort Dam.
National highways connect Pretoria with Johannesburg, 60 kilometres (37 miles) to the south, making commuting between the two cities quick and easy – ideal for business people. |
