South Africa :: Bongani Mountain Lodge - Mpumalanga

CC Africa’s focus: Community equity, income generation, education and health care are a primary concern. In consultation with community organisations such as the Africa Foundation – originally founded by CC Africa, now a not-for-profit rural development organisation – Bongani has contributed significantly towards improving the prosperity and living conditions of the Luphisi and Mpakeni communities surrounding the Reserve.

Bongani won the Endangered Wildlife Trust (May 1997) award for outstanding contribution to the conservation of biodiversity, and hosted the first international forum of B.E.S.T (Business Enterprise for Sustainable Travel). Bongani has contributed significantly to the neighbouring communities of Luphisi and Mpakeni.

Bongani Mountain Lodge’s Community Achievements:

Building of seven classrooms
Media centre equipped with 10 computers
Electricity supplied to Lepesi Primary School
Implementing Edu-peg – a self-corrective early learning tool – at Lepesi and Mpakeni Primary Schools
Sponsoring and granting numerous bursaries
Distributing 1000 Hippo Water Rollers to schools, clinics and individual households
Ongoing conservation lessons
Implementing various income generation and small business development projects
