ITINERARY - (Swakopmund Airport to Hosea Kutako (Windhoek International) Airport)
On arrival at Swakopmund airport you will be met and transferred to the Swakopmund Hotel & Entertainment Centre. You will have the rest of the day at leisure to explore Swakopmund and to enjoy optional desert excursions and activities. Our local Afro Ventures office will gladly assist you with these arrangements. The Swakopmund Hotel has been built in and around the old station building, immaculately restored to its former glory. This is the ideal base from which to explore the quaint charm of Swakopmund, the stark contrast between sea and desert and the haunting open spaces of the area. Overnight at the Swakopmund Hotel & Entertainment Centre in a twin bedded room with en suite bathroom on a bed and breakfast basis.
Today you will enjoy a full day excursion. You visit the Messum crater, where you can revel in the many geological wonders to be found there ranging from signs of ancient volcanic activity to rocks which produce strange musical sounds when struck. An abundance of desert flora can be found on the slopes of the crater, including Namibia’s best welwitschia specimens. Vast eco-senstive lichen fields are also found in the immediate vicinity. Another highlight for today is the Bushman (San) paintings, which can be viewed on the crater sides. After a light lunch we head south towards Cape Cross, which is renowned for its huge colony of seals, as well as for being the place where the first Europeans set foot on Namibian soil more than 500 years ago. After breakfast you will be transferred to Swakopmund airport for a low level scenic flight over the Namib Desert to Sossusvlei Mountain Lodge. The lodge accommodates only 20 guests in intimate exclusivity and is situated in the northern reaches of the private NamibRand Nature Reserve, encompassing 180 000 hectares of pristine desert wilderness for residents only. This afternoon the resident naturalist will take you on a 4x4 excursion to explore the open grass plains, fossilised sand dunes and red sand dune belts of the NamibRand. The excursion ends in the dunes with sundowners and a spectacular desert sunset against the towering Naukluft mountain range. Overnight at Sossusvlei Mountain Lodge in a twin bedded desert suite with en suite facilities on a full board basis, including activities.
Early this morning, we set out on a guided 4x4 excursion to Sossusvlei, site of the highest sand dunes on earth. They say that the undulating sea of sand dune mountains is a sight so beautiful it will be etched on your mind forever. In the afternoon we return to the NamibRand and continue its exploration on foot or by 4x4 quad bike. Return to the lodge for dinner and for star lovers, a chance to revel in the desert’s glittering night skies is aided by a high powered computerised telescope in the lodge’s custom-built star gazing facility. You may get last glimpses of the desert on a morning desert excursion in the NamibRand before breakfast. After breakfast you will be transferred to the airstrip from where you will travel by light aircraft to Eros airport. On arrival you will be met and transferred to Windhoek Country Club. Encircled by an 18-hole championship golf course, this luxurious hotel and casino offers its guests a variety of sports, entertainment and nightlife. Throughout the hotel the hues and patterns of the neighbouring Namib Desert have inspired the decor. Today is at leisure before you are transferred in the afternoon to Hosea Kutako (Windhoek International) Airport, for your scheduled flight to Mokuti Lodge. The lodge is strategically situated near the eastern entrance to Etosha National Park, one of Africa’s most awe-inspiring game parks. One of the most impressive features of Mokuti Lodge is the lushness of its vegetation and the tranquillity of its surrounds. The lodge is set in over 40 km² of natural habitat and has its own giraffe and a variety of buck. Your stay will be in a chalet, set under cool thatch, which is fully equipped and has en suite facilities to ensure a comfortable stay. Overnight at Mokuti Lodge on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis.
