Incentives

It is in our opinion that each incentive represents an opportunity to test new levels in creating an African adventure which seeks to make a journey to this wild continent unforgettable.

With this in mind we remain single minded in our desire to produce interesting, exciting and innovative incentive programmes such as Anthology's Amazing Race, Conservation Safari, Astronomy Experience and Bush Dinners.

Anthology's Amazing Race

The race is loosely centred around the highly successful television series but removes the need to decipher often-difficult locally based clues. Instead we use GPS hand units to assist guests in navigating themselves through an African bush adventure. Teams are constituted in multiples of 7 to 10 guests (One landrover) and can therefore take place with groups from as little as two landrovers up to as many as there are beds on the reserve. The length of the race can also be tailored to suit the available time and can begin as early as at O.R. Tambo International Airport.

In its typical format the race lasts three hours with approximately 30 minutes required before hand for the brief, the race would also typically replace one of the game drives. Each team or landrover is issued with a GPS, set of way points including relevant questions, a map in some cases, a guide and landrover, and a fictional budget. A time limit of three hours is imposed and the objective is to reach as many points, successfully answering a couple of questions relevant to that particular site, as possible within the allotted time. The GPS allows us to measure several key performance areas, which include distance covered, average speed, maximum speed reached etc. The allocated fictional budget provides the team with resources to buy information and to pay for travel, exercising caution as exceeding the speed limit will earn a fine and travelling too far will incur additional costs. Revenue is earned by successfully reaching and completing each point.

The team will be required to perform some activities at each of the points, these could include tracking, blind-fold driving, identification of fauna and flora specimens. Occasionally a ‘ghost point’ is added and this is designed to confuse teams and waste valuable time.

Although the programme is designed to deliver a great deal of fun, it is possible to integrate some corporate objectives or sales opportunities. This is achieved by replacing one of the waypoint questions with a company related question or promotional message.

The nature of the activities is further tailored to ensure that guests are equal to the tasks. It is extremely difficult to allocate a precise cost for the race, as this will vary from reserve to reserve and will be largely dependent on the complexity and length of the race, the race could in fact last several days.

The amazing race has been designed to provide guests with an exciting opportunity to learn about our environment, provide a glimpse into the day-to-day life of a ranger and feel the thrill of doing so within a game reserve. This is all achieved whilst having a great deal of fun, which is, after all, our primary objective.

Conservation Safari

Amongst our activities  is the 'conservation safari' , an opportunity for guests to participate in conservation exercises. The concept of involving guests in conservation exercises has traditionally been beyond the reach of guests in our private reserves, and even more so in national parks. We are delighted that we have been able to reach agreements with our parks to involve guests in these extremely exciting experiences.

This has been made possible through financial contributions from the guests to offset some of the costs relating to these conservation exercises. In some cases conservation exercises have become possible expressly through these contributions, a situation which can only benefit our wildlife heritage.

The experience typically begins after a short drive to the briefing area, here guests receive a detailed brief on the programme of events and an explanation on the reason why the exercise is about to take place.

The process of enticing the predator's to the bait involves securing a carcass to a tree or similar anchor and then playing a recording of a distressed animal calling, once the subjects are at the carcass, the vet will dart the individual. Generally about 5 to 10 minutes will pass whilst the individual succumbs to the effects of the sedative. The vehicles move in and create a lager around the individual with our guides keeping a watchful eye over other members of the pride, assuming there are any. In this case the lion is loaded onto the back of a vehicle by guests.

The individual is removed from the site and taken a safe distance away to begin the procedures. Procedures could include; branding, placing or removing collars, inserting micro chips etc. Throughout the experience maximum guest participation is encouraged.

Bush Dinners

Bush dinners is one way in which we are generally able to provide an exclusive experience designed for incentive and conference groups, where groups require a private venue for various reasons. Bush dinners range from a standard bush dining experience and can be transformed into a highly elegant silver, crystal and white linen gourmet delight.

Bush dinners are typically held in remote locations some distance away from the lodge, and are unfenced adding an exhilarating dimension to your evening experience. Lighting is provided in the form of paraffin hurricane lamps and the ambience completed with a crackling log fire around which tables are arranged.
