AAMS31 Sun & Fun Break – 6 Nights
Day 1 Mombasa (D)
Arrive in Mombasa where you will be met and transferred to your choice of beach hotel.
The influence of Kenya ’s rich trading history is still very much a part of the area's unique and lively culture, which makes a holiday to the Kenyan coast more than a simple sun and sand fix. The coast was a pivotal stop on the spice route, where, from the 9th century, Indian, Arabic and African traders settled to create a Swahili culture that is still thriving today.
Overnight at Indian Ocean Beach Club or Nyali Beach Club.
The Indian Ocean Beach Club is in a class of its own for genuine hospitality, faultless service and intrinsic charm.
One of the Kenyan coast's original, much loved hotels, Nyali Beach Club has well established gardens which create a wonderful environment.
Day 2 Mombasa (BD)
A full day at leisure to enjoy the hotel’s water-based optional activities or simply relax poolside. Take an optional dhow cruise or enjoy the Sun et Lumiere Show this evening.
Overnight at Indian Ocean Beach Club or Nyali Beach Club.
Day 3 Mombasa (BD)
The day begins with a tour of Mombasa , including a visit to Fort Jesus and the Akamba Wood Carvers. After lunch at a local restaurant, travel to Haller Park (formerly known as the Bamburi Nature Trail). This area was reclaimed from a coal quarry and turned into a nature trail. Along with visiting a working fish farm, hippos, buffalo, antelope and birdlife may also be seen.
Overnight at Indian Ocean Beach Club or Nyali Beach Club.
Day 4 Mombasa – Shimba Hills (BD)
Today drive to Shimba Hills National Park , a 320 square kilometer forest, first made a reserve in 1903. Tonight enjoy nocturnal game viewing at your lodge’s floodlit water hole.
An ancient forest grows on the uprising of the volcanic Shimba Hills and is home to elephant, warthog, buffalo and several species of antelope including rare sable. The altitude and the damp atmosphere also attract countless butterflies and birds around the grassy hills and on the edges of the forest.
Overnight at Shimba Rainforest Lodge.
Shimba Rainforest Lodge is a superb wooden structure, built overlooking a waterhole, and accessed by a ramp through unique flora.
Day 5 Shimba Hills – Mombasa (BD)
Return by road to Mombasa today, where the remainder of the day is at leisure.
Overnight at Indian Ocean Beach Club or Nyali Beach Club.
Day 6 Mombasa (BD)
A final day to enjoy the beach or perhaps take an optional excursion to Mombasa ’s Old Town .
Although its history goes back centuries, most of the houses in Old Town are generally no more than 100 years old. Nevertheless, many of these buildings were modeled on ancient Swahili designs and feature intricately carved doors and door frames. The Muslim influence can also be seen in the construction of balconies, their support brackets, and detailed lattice work. This area of Mombasa is well worth exploring, walking guides are readily available.
Overnight at Indian Ocean Beach Club or Nyali Beach Club.
Day 7 Mombasa – Depart (B)
