Four gracious Victorian homes have been beautifully restored by award winning architects to create a unique hotel of immense charm and character. Inside you will find a subtle combination of modern sophistication and old-fashioned warmth reflected in everything from the decor to the welcoming attitude of our dedicated staff.

Accommodation at Quarters on Florida

Whichever of our 23 rooms you decide to stay in, standard or superior, you will find each one well equipped. Every room is air-conditioned, has a LCD TV offering both local and satellite channels, a queen size bed, direct-dial telephone, safety deposit box and the facility to make tea and coffee. To ensure you have a peaceful night's sleep all windows are double glazed to eliminate neighbourhood noise.

From the beautifully appointed bathrooms to the home made biscuits, the luxury of Quarters is a unique experience. All of our rooms offer a choice of showers or baths, a selection of soaps, conditioners and shampoos and fresh bath sheets to wrap yourself in after a luxurious and relaxing foam bath.

Quarters on Florida is situated at the corner of Sindile Thusi  (formerly Argyle) and Florida Roads, an area often referred to as Durban's "Dining District". Whether your preference be for French Cuisine, exotic Taiwanese, sumptuous steaks or Indian Curry, a restaurant to satisfy your taste can be found within easy walking distance of Quarters on Florida.

The beaches of Durban's famed Golden Mile are but a short drive away as are the sporting facilities of Kings Park which include the brand new Moses Madiba Stadium, Kings Park Swimming Complex, an Archery Club, Cycling Track, a Virgin Active Health Club and the Windsor Park Municipal Golf Course with a full 18-hole Golf layout as well as a fun Mashie course. The famed Durban Country Club lies between the Kings Park facilities and the northern beaches.

Dining at Quarters on Florida

THE BRASSERIE
Awarded Durban’s best traditional restaurant by KZN Tourism, The Brasserie is a combination of simple and stylish cuisine. The restaurant is open daily for breakfast lunch and dinner and offers a wide array of delectable dishes from an ala Carte menu, all expertly and lovingly prepared.

The Brasserie offers a quiet setting for intimate lunches and dinners. Guests have a choice of dining in the conservatory style indoor restaurant, or al fresco in the adjacent quaint outdoor courtyard. Whilst the Brasserie menu is fully available for those dining at the courtyard, there is also a wide selection of light meals, scones and other treats ideal for morning and afternoon tea.

In the evening diners sit under the stars and enjoy a unique and memorable candlelit dinner. All palates can appreciate a menu that includes enjoyable dishes such as Chargrilled fillet of beef medallions on sweetcorn potato cake and roasted cherry tomatoes served with a mustard seed butter cream or Aromatic Duck simmered in a Star Anise,cinnamon and gingered infused court bouillon then oven glazed with a basting of Hoisin and soy sauces served on a vegetable broiche. The Brasserie is also an ideal venue for small corporate dinners as the entire restaurant can be booked for lunch or dinner, ensuring total privacy for corporate functions.

Weddings

One of Durban's most sophisticated weddings options, Quarters on Florida has become increasingly popular with those discerning brides and grooms looking for a wedding venue with an idyllic setting, first class cuisine and the personal service that makes for a truly memorable occasion.

Quarters on Florida staff are there to assist with the arrangements and can source your entertainment, flowers and the cake if required. And during the function Quarters on Florida attentive staff will be on hand to ensure the success of the special day.

Venues

The Brasserie can seat up to 40 guests whilst the adjoining courtyard can extend the event to up to 60 guests. It is recommended however that a marquee be hired for guests dining in the courtyard just in case Durban's normally sunny climate decides to rain on the party.

Menus

Whether a breakfast, brunch, lunch or dinner affair, Quarters' famed Brasserie restaurant offers a selection of menus that will ensure all taste preferences are suitably catered for.

Directions from King Shaka Airport to Quarters Hotel Florida Road - Durban

You will need to follow the N2 South.

Take the Umhlali ? M4 offramp and join the M4 (aka Ruth First freeway)

Follow the M4 into Durban - shortly after crossing the Umgeni River you will see the Suncoast Casino on your left hand side. Turn right immediately after you pass the casino turn right at the se of traffic lights onto the M17 - Sandile Thusi Road (formerly known as Argyle Road).

Travel up the M17 through 5 sets of traffic lights. At the sixth set turn l\right into Florida Road

We are the four white houses surrounded by a white “pillar” fence on the corner of the M17 and Florida Road.

From Durban CBD:

From the City Hall in Dr Pixley Kaseme (formerly West St) take the first left into Samora Machel (formerly Aliwal) and continue straight into Masabalala Yengwa (formerly NMR). Take the first off ramp on Masabalala Yengwa onto the M17/ Sindile Thusi (formerly Argyle Road) turn off. Turn Left into Sindile Thusi (Argyle Road) and continue straight, through five sets of traffic lights. At the fifth set (Florida Road) turn right. Quarters on Florida is on your immediate left. We are the four white houses surrounded by a white “pillar” fence. There is a Caltex Garage diagonally across from us.

Directions from Quarters Hotels Florida Road to King Shaka Airport - Durban

 You will exit Quarters Hotel via the back gate and turn right. At the stop street turn right again onto Florida Road.

 At the intersection turn left into Sandile Thusi Road (Formally Argyle Road).

You will then go through 5 sets of traffic lights, keep left, at the 6th set take the glide off to the left onto the M4 (Ruth First Freeway)

 From the M4 you will need to take the turn off near Umdloti onto the N2. From the N2 follow the airport signs to the King Shaka Airport.

To do in Durban

uShaka Marine World in Durban, South Africa, the largest ocean park in Africa, boasts fresh and sea water attractions from shipwrecks to an aquarium and dolphinarium, from water slides to amusement parks, from adventure sport to fine dining and shopping.

Gateway Theatre of Shopping: Attractions at the centre apart from the superb shopping are the entertainment facilities which include 'D-Rex' the only double break wave pool in the world, a huge Tony Hawke designed skateboard park, as well as a climbing wall, an IMAX theatre, cinemas and much more.

Umgeni Bird Park: Set on the Northern banks of the Umgeni Rivier just 10 minutes from both Quarters on Florida and Quarters on Avondale is the Umgeni Bird with a huge collection of both indigenous and exotic birds.

Windsor Golf Course: A 5 minute drive from both Quarters on Florida and Quarters on Avondale lies Windsor Golf Course. A municipal course it offers golfers a fair challenge on one of the busiest municipal golf courses in South Africa. Visitors are welcome and green fees are incredibly reasonable.

Kings Park Olympic Swimming Complex: This complex offers two pools, an Olympic sized main pool and a second diving / water polo pool. Both are heated and thus ideal for those who need their daily swimming exercise.

ABSA Park Rugby Stadium: The home of Natal Rugby and the ever popular Natal Sharks, ABSA Park is a short drive from both Quarters and transport can be arranged for those staying at either Quarters on Florida or Quarters on Avondale for Super 14, Curie Cup and Rugby Internationals.

Virgin Active Health Club: A Virgin Active Health Club is situated at the southern entrance to ABSA Park Rugby Stadium. Members are welcome.

Moses Madiba Stadium: Presently under construction will play host to several of the Soccer World Cup games in 2010, including one of the semi-finals. The stadium will have a seating capacity for 70 000 people. The arches will be 100m high and will cover 320 x 280 square metres and will be 45m in height.

Durban

Kwazulu Natal

Also known as the Zulu Kingdom, KwaZulu-Natal is a combination of natural wonders, fascinating culture and ultra-modern facilities. Durban’s Golden Mile skirts the main beaches of the Indian Ocean. Draw cards include an amusement centre, paddling pools, paved walkways and fountains. Key attractions include:

Dolphin spotting or lazing the days away on the coastline between the Umdloti and Tugela rivers – the Dolphin Coast.
The Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Park, one of the largest game parks in South Africa and home to the Big Five, as well as cheetah and wild dogs.
The eMakhosini Valley, birthplace of King Shaka. The new Valley of Zulu Kings tells visitors all about the Zulu nation.
The Greater St Lucia Wetlands, with some of the highest forested dunes in the world, and an abundance of fish and birds.
Travelling the Hibiscus Coast between Umkomaas and the Wild Coast on the Banana Express train.
The Royal Natal National Park offers many scenic highlights, including the Amphitheatre, Mont-aux-Sources and the Tugela Falls.
The Battlefields Route in northern KwaZulu-Natal has the highest concentration of battlefields and related military sites in South Africa.

Travel formalities

Foreign visitors should check before arriving whether a visa is required. Visitors must have at least one blank page in their passports.
Tourists must have return or onward tickets.
Those coming from yellow-fever areas should be able to prove inoculation.
Foreign tourists may have their Value-Added Tax refunded upon departure.
