Quarters on Avondale

In the tradition of the original Quarters (on Florida) which was restored to its Victorian splendour, Quarters on Avondale offers quiet luxury in an 'Edwardian' setting. The original Edwardian era home has been beautifully restored to its former glory to mirror the original architecture.

The main building, a double storey, comprises a reception area, a guest lounge and 10 en-suite bedrooms on the two floors. The newly built annex is a single storey set a few metres from the main building and joined by covered walkways. The annex has 7 en-suite bedrooms. All the bedrooms are beautifully furnished with period furniture imported from France and colourfully decorated with quality soft finishings.

The gardens, whilst still in their infancy, are planted with a multitude of different herb, spice and scented plants, bushes and trees. As the garden establishes itself, visitors to Quarters on Avondale will be greeted by the many intriguing aroma's of this unique garden.

Jam restaurant is in a separate building behind the main hotel and is also a restored Edwardian residence. Jam restaurant offers guests a superb choice of breakfast fare both hot and continental. Breakfast, lunch and dinner is available to guests and visitors from Monday to Saturday.  On Sundays breakfast and lunch are served.  The covered terrace is conducive to business meetings as well as a social morning with friends.  Cocktails are served from 16h30 in the trendy cocktail bar that boasts gorgeous fushia pink bar stools! 

As with Quarters on Florida, Quarters on Avondale has an all female management team who are committed to making your stay as comfortable and enjoyable as you would expect from a Quarters Hotel.

Quarters on Avondale is situated at the corner of Sindile Thusi (formerly Argyle) and Avondale Roads, in the leafy suburb of Morningside, a stone's throw from Durban's "Dining District" of Florida Road.  Jam Restaurant, the on-site restaurant, is the latest addition to the Morningside  trendy restaurant set. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served in this plush dining venue.  Cocktails are available in the beautifully decorated bar and covered terrace area. 

If your preference be French Cuisine, Taiwanese, sumptuous steaks or Indian Curry, a restaurant to satisfy your taste can be found within easy walking distance of Quarters on Avondale.

The beaches of Durban's famed Golden Mile are but a short drive away as are the sporting facilities of Kings Park which include the brand new Moses Mabhida Stadium, Kings Park Swimming Complex, an Archery Club, Cycling Track, a Virgin Active Health Club and the Windsor Park Municipal Golf Course with a full 18-hole Golf layout as well as a fun Mashie course. The famed Durban Country Club lies between the Kings Park facilities and the northern beaches and Royal Durban Golf Club is 2 minutes drive away..

Dining

"JAM", restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner Monday to Saturday and breakfast and lunch on Sundays. The restaurant is also available for private functions, weddings and corporate product launches if the whole restaurant and terrace is reserved.

Breakfasts are a grand affair with a choice of continental including home baked breads, cereals, muesli, cheeses, cold meats or hot fare from a comprehensive menu with eggs "just as you like them". The eggs bennedict are to die for.

Lunch offers a choice of light healthy meals.

The restaurant caters for vegetarians and vegans and can, by prior arrangement, cater for Halaal and Kosher meals.

Conferences

Whilst Quarters on Avondale has no conference facilities, Quarters on Florida is a short walking distance away and has excellent facilities for 22 delegates. Delegates can be accommodated at either of the Quarters properties or both if required.

Weddings

Quarters on Avondale offers wedding facilities using the Jam Restaurant facilities, an ideal event and wedding venue. Jam with its beautiful terrace and stylish interiors, is the ideal venue for a stylish private wedding. OUr chef Claudie will tailormake a menu for every bride and Vicky our manager will ensure that your wedding is run in a very professional and stylish manner.

Wedding guests can stay at either Quarters on Avondale and / or Quarters on Florida which is a short walking distance away.

Directions from King Shaka Airport to Quarters Hotel Avondale Road - Durban

You will need to follow the N2 South.

Take the Umhlali ? M4 offramp and join the M4 (aka Ruth First freeway)

Follow the M4 into Durban - shortly after crossing the Umgeni River you will see the Suncoast Casino on your left hand side. Turn right immediately after you pass the casino turn right at the se of traffic lights onto the M17 - Sandile Thusi Road (formerly known as Argyle Road).

Travel up the M17 through 6 sets of traffic lights. At the seventh set turn left into Avondale Road.

We are the two white houses surrounded by a white “pillar” fence on the corner of the M17 and Avondale Road..

To do in Durban

uShaka Marine World in Durban, South Africa, the largest ocean park in Africa, boasts fresh and sea water attractions from shipwrecks to an aquarium and dolphinarium, from water slides to amusement parks, from adventure sport to fine dining and shopping.

Gateway Theatre of Shopping: Attractions at the centre apart from the superb shopping are the entertainment facilities which include 'D-Rex' the only double break wave pool in the world, a huge Tony Hawke designed skateboard park, as well as a climbing wall, an IMAX theatre, cinemas and much more.

Umgeni Bird Park: Set on the Northern banks of the Umgeni Rivier just 10 minutes from both Quarters on Florida and Quarters on Avondale is the Umgeni Bird with a huge collection of both indigenous and exotic birds.

Windsor Golf Course: A 5 minute drive from both Quarters on Florida and Quarters on Avondale lies Windsor Golf Course. A municipal course it offers golfers a fair challenge on one of the busiest municipal golf courses in South Africa. Visitors are welcome and green fees are incredibly reasonable.

Kings Park Olympic Swimming Complex: This complex offers two pools, an Olympic sized main pool and a second diving / water polo pool. Both are heated and thus ideal for those who need their daily swimming exercise.

ABSA Park Rugby Stadium: The home of Natal Rugby and the ever popular Natal Sharks, ABSA Park is a short drive from both Quarters and transport can be arranged for those staying at either Quarters on Florida or Quarters on Avondale for Super 14, Curie Cup and Rugby Internationals.

Virgin Active Health Club: A Virgin Active Health Club is situated at the southern entrance to ABSA Park Rugby Stadium. Members are welcome.

Moses Madiba Stadium: Presently under construction will play host to several of the Soccer World Cup games in 2010, including one of the semi-finals. The stadium will have a seating capacity for 70 000 people. The arches will be 100m high and will cover 320 x 280 square metres and will be 45m in height.

Durban

Foreign visitors should check before arriving whether a visa is required. Visitors must have at least one blank page in their passports.
Tourists must have return or onward tickets.
Those coming from yellow-fever areas should be able to prove inoculation.
