Hiking Safari - Machame Route 8 Days / 7 Nights

Mt Kilimanjaro’s Machame Route is considered by many to be the most beautiful and scenic to climb. En route you pass through tropical montane rain forest to the snows of Kilimanjaro. Departure dates have been set to coincide with the full moon and the best weather conditions. All groups climb with expert guides, an assistant guide, cook and porters. Accommodation throughout is in mountain tents pitched at sites near the overnight huts. All equipment provided is of a high standard, including thick foam mattresses to ensure as comfortable a night’s sleep as possible.

Day 1 : ARUSHA 
You will be driven from Kilimanjaro International Airport to Rivertrees Lodge.  This lodge is set in the grounds of a large coffee estate and has spectacular views of Mt. Meru. You will spend the afternoon with your mountain guide who will give you a briefing and prepare you for the climb.

Dinner and overnight is at Rivertrees Lodge. (Dinner only)

Day 2 : KILIMANJARO - MACHAME
Transfer to the Machame Gate from where you begin your climb. Dependant on weather conditions the climb through the forest to the Machame Hut can be a moderate to very demanding climb.

Day 3 : KILIMANJARO - SHIRA
Rising early, you cross a valley and a stream and then climb up a steep ridge for 3-4 hours. The path then drops into the river gorge before you climb more gently onto the moorland of the Shira Plateau, one of the most fascinating areas of the Mountain.

Day 4 : KILIMANJARO - BARRANCO  
Today you will walk for 5-6 hours. En-route you will be able to see typical Kilimanjaro mountain vegetation and the views of the Barranco Valley are spectacular.

Day 5 : KILIMANJARO BARAFU  
From the Barranco Hut, walk across scree and ridges to Karanga (4,100m) from where the views of the West Breach and the southern glacier are breathtaking. About 2 hours from Karanga you will join up with the Barafu path (part of the Mweka Trail).

Day  6 : KILIMANJARO - SUMMIT - MWEKA
You rise early in the morning and begin your climb to the summit by the light of the full moon. You pass through the gap between the Ratzel and Rebmann glaciers and continue to Uhuru peak (5,896 m) where you can watch the sunrise from the rooftop of Africa!

Day 7 : KILIMANJARO - MWEKA - ARUSHA
Today you descend to the Mweka Gate and then continue by vehicle to the Moivaro Coffee Plantation Lodge.

Day 8 : ARUSHA
Transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport.
