RIVIERA ON THE VAAL WIFI ENABLED:
Riviera on Vaal has been wireless enabled by the deployment of multiple access points covering the business centre, all conference rooms, all guest rooms, lounge and Terrace café with a prepaid facility. The WIFI hotspot is linked with a Telkom DSL connection which allows for unlimited internet access, secure access to e-mails (web mail, Microsoft outlook and express), enabling synchronized preset diaries and being in touch with staff at all times.

Keeping the competitive edge means keeping up with executives’ technology demands, which now means fast broadband internet and e-mail access. With technology ever-changing we view this as an on-going exercise to ensure that we remain up-to-date with the changing demand of the business market.
On arrival at the Riviera on Vaal a visitor will detect our hotspot. This is an automatic detection if the wireless device is enabled and set to scan for networks. Our IT Support desk will be available to assist visitors that cannot detect our Hotspots.

RIVIERA ON VAAL COUNTRY CLUB:
The luxurious Riviera on Vaal Country Club, South Africa, is located on the banks of the Vaal River in Gauteng. It is located a mere 45 minutes drive from Johannesburg and offers both its valuable members and guests an array of sporting facilities. These include squash and tennis courts, snooker tables, darts, a 9-hole pitch and putt course as well as the immaculate 18-hole golf course.

The course is an 18-hole par 72 with a course rating of 71 for men and 71 for women. A flood-lit 9-hole par 3 Pitch and Putt course lies next to the 18th hole. The course is situated along the banks of the magnificent Vaal River and forms part of the 5-star Riviera on Vaal Resort. Once you arrive at this excellent Parkland layout on relatively flat land, the club and surroundings offer tranquility and seclusion from the hustle and bustle of city life.

Taking in sweeping views of the Vaal River from the historic club house at sunset, designed by the legendary Herbert Baker, is an experience to remember. The course itself boasts bent grass greens with Cynodan / Kikuya fairways and tees which are currently being upgraded without disruption to play. Inyama Grill House, Inyama, meaning meat, is a popular restaurant that offers you the opportunity to select and grill your own steak. The perfect complement to a delicious steak is an award-winning Zorgvliet wine. Live music every Friday night ensures a great start to the weekend for our patrons. During winter this restaurant keeps the fireplace burning and this adds to the warm atmosphere in the restaurant.

MATTHEWS RESTAURANT:
Matthews Restaurant, overlooking the Vaal River, caters for all your fine dining needs. The restaurant offers a relaxed yet elegant ambience and fine dining menu. Sunday buffet lunches are also on offer. A delectable spit-braai is on offer every last Sunday of the month.

MATTHEWS TERRACE CAFE:
Matthews Terrace Café, adjacent to the Matthews restaurant, is located outside on the terrace, and here the view of the river is breathtaking. The Terrace Café serves light meals daily including salads, delicious sandwiches, burgers, spuds, cakes and desserts, to name but a few. VAAL RIVER:
The Vaal River is the largest tributary of the Orange River in South Africa. The river has its source in the Drakensberg mountains in Mpumalanga, east of Johannesburg, and flows southwest to its conjunction with the Orange River southwest of Kimberley in the Northern Cape. It is 1120km in length, and forms the border between Mpumalanga, Gauteng and North West Province on its north bank, and the Free State on its south.

Importance to industry and agriculture:
Water is drawn from the Vaal to meet the industrial needs of the Greater Johannesburg Metropolitan Area and a large part of the Free State Province. As a part of the Vaal-Hartz Scheme it is a major source of water for irrigation.

History:
The name Vaal comes from Dutch (later Afrikaans), and means "pale", which alludes to the greyish colours of its waters, especially noticed during flood season when much silt is carried. Historically, the river formed the boundary between two Boer republics, and later provinces, Transvaal and the Orange Free State. The geographic name Transvaal comes from the name of this river, meaning "Beyond the Vaal river". This was in respect to the Cape Colony and Natal, which were the main areas of European colonisation at the time, and lay south of the Vaal.

Vaal (fäl) , river, c.750 mi (1,210 km) long, rising in Mpumalanga, NE South Africa, and flowing SW to the Orange River. It forms most of the northern border of the Free State. The river's flow is almost totally regulated and provides water power for industries on the Witwatersrand. Vaal Dam, one of the country's largest, is located SE of Vereeniging; it stores water for use by the mines. The Vaalhartz Dam, near the junction of the Vaal and the Hartz rivers, is an important part of the Vaal River Development Project.
