MNEMBA ISLAND, ZANZIBAR
Mnemba Island is an exclusive island just 4.5 kilometres (2.8 miles) off the north-eastern tip of Zanzibar in the azure Indian Ocean. Surrounded by an atoll of breathtaking coral reefs, it boasts some of Africa’s most wonderful dive sites.
The calm, azure seas around Mnemba Island offer irresistible snorkelling, scuba diving, kayaking, fly fishing, windsurfing and swimming directly from the beach. A walk around the Island reveals a variety of sea birds, whilst snorkelling amongst the house coral reefs introduces one to the magnificent colourful aquatic world.
Turtle season is between December and May, and these prehistoric creatures can be seen laying their eggs on the beaches. A short while later, the beaches are filled with tiny turtle hatchlings.
