Namibia is renowned for its wide open spaces, magnificent terrain, desert landscapes, spectacular sunsets and sunrises which make a journey through the oldest living desert in the luxury and comfort of a world-class train a unique experience.
The interior of the Desert Express reflects the colours and textures of Namibia. Uniquely shaped large windows and beautifully etched glass doors provide panoramic views. Burnt amber leather upholstery, rich golden and red woods and animal motifs all echo the landscape through which the train passes. There are 24 air-conditioned sleeper compartments with en suite facilities. The compartments convert to a private lounge during the day and can accommodate up to three passengers, each with an internal telephone and several music channels.
Guests can relax and enjoy full bar service at the air-conditioned Spitzkoppe Lounge. A three-course dinner is served in the Welwitschia Restaurant where Namibian specialities, such as seafood, ostrich, crocodile and game dishes, are accompanied by a selection of fine wines. After dinner guests may retire to the Starview Coach to stargaze through a glass-panelled roof.
Namibia is regarded as one of the best locations in the world for astronomical observations, as night skies are not only remarkably clear but the country is situated in an ideal southern position. There is a permanent tour guide on board who is available to answer any questions about the history, wildlife, ecology and culture of Namibia.
