Hwange Safari Lodge

Africa is the home of the safari, and Zimbabwe is the home of Hwange National Park, a wildlife conservancy famous the world over for its size and its wildlife population of buffalo, zebra, giraffe, all the big cats, hyena, wild dog, rhino and the world’s biggest elephant population.

The park occupies 14,650 square kilometres of unspoilt African bush and is managed by a National Parks Service whose rangers are some of the best in the field. They know the park, its flora and fauna and its inhabitants intimately.

On the border of the park in its own extensive grounds, and effectively part of the park, and only an hour’s drive from the Victoria Falls, is Hwange Safari Lodge, a favourite with visitors from all over the world. The Lodge has 100 well-appointed rooms and suites, as well as conference facilities developed specifically for those who understand that the real bush experience does not always have to be under canvas. It is staffed with people who are not only experts in providing a world-class hotel service in true African Sun tradition, but who also have a love and intimate knowledge of the Lodge’s surroundings.

Hwange Safari Lodge caters for a diverse range of individuals and groups from the lone adventurer to couples, families and tour groups. It offers comfort, modern conveniences and the opportunity to experience the real African wild. Guests soon learn that this is the home of the wildlife they have come to see but that they, and the Lodge, are guests of the real owners of the land, the elephants, rhino, lions and giraffes.

Hwange is all about wildlife, so game drives with expert guides are the order of the day at Hwange Safari Lodge. These can be enjoyed at night or in daytime but always in the care of expert guides.

To top it all off, the water-hole provides a great view of game from each room, the restaurant, pool area and the viewing deck. While guests enjoy a long, cold “Sundowner”, they watch the trek to the water-hole by a rare mix of game from the impish impala to the majestic elephant for their end of day drink.

Early morning or late afternoon going into evening, are the best times to view wildlife in their domain. Make no mistake, it is their domain which is why expert guides are essential for the game drives.

Hwange Safari Lodge is also home to the best food experience in Zimbabwe – Bush Dinners. These can be arranged on request for between 12 and 50 people.

They are held in the bush under starlight with bonfires for guests to enjoy that total bush camp experience to the sound of animals in the wild. The Lodge staff provide a full buffet dinner and traditional African fare, all with the compulsory braaivleis (or barbeque to the uninitiated).

For the less adventurous, an array of Western food is also available on the buffet to ensure that no-one is left out of this eating experience. For smaller groups, this wonderful meal experience can be enjoyed within the grounds of the Lodge with local traditional dancers providing great evening entertainment.

During the day, guests can take a tour of the nearby pottery village and buy some mementos and gifts for family and friends. For international guests to have a full appreciation of different African lifestyles, a tour of the village to visit some of the households can also be arranged. Guests can also take a short drive to Dete, to visit an animal sanctuary for the famous “painted dogs”.

Cameras are essential for a visit to Hwange Safari Lodge. Under the expert eye and guidance of the Lodge’s own head ranger, an unforgettable African Sun experience will be captured forever.
